One guy said he got 21 MPG on a 285 mile trip to Las Vegas in the winter time going only 3000 RPM. This was with a 525 HP street type 383 engine. At the end of the day, we proved to ourselves that the good old small block Chevy is still a viable performance engine that looks just right under the hood.ALTHOUGH i had a 355 with a big solid lift cam, and brodix 200race rite heads that was 11.5-1. changed the bottom end to a 383, dropped the compression to 8.5-1 (for procharger) and went to solid roller. the 383 would KILL the 355 motor for motor. in other words the low compression 383 would kill the higher compression 355. both can run well.In my humble opinion the 400 is a better build for the Buck for all around use, and a 383 will run just as hot as the 400. I've built many of both, but it seems that the Stump Puller puts in on the Mouse motor with a lot less rev's.
